Anchor Academy Newsletter
April 2009
Dear Friends,
Greetings from the Anchor Academy. We have been busy working on our building, but more importantly, the Lord has been at work rebuilding lives. There are 25 young men in our ministry at this present time, and calls from families needing help continue to come our way every week. Our newest student is Anthony P. from Georgia. Please pray that he will allow the Lord to work mightily in his life.
We recently took everyone to a youth conference at Bethel Baptist Church in Walls, MS and heard some great preaching. In the last service, God really dealt with our hearts! Some of the young men we have been praying for let go of bitterness and got right with God. One young man got saved. On the bus ride back, guys were testifying, praying, and singing joyously for three hours. It is good to see teens get fired up about the things of God.
We are pleased to announce the opening of the Anchor Men’s Center. This is a ministry for men 18-30 years of age who need a place to come and get help. Through the years we have received many calls for this age group. Now by God’s grace we are able to meet this need.
These men are of the age where they will be starting a family and launching out into a career. Psychologists tell us that this stage of life is the fullest of teachable moments. Between the age of 18-26 people firm up their philosophical views about God and the world. For those whose lives have been torn down by the destructive culture, drugs, and alcohol, we want to help them rebuild on a solid foundation of Scripture.
We have purchased a house in Vanduser and converted it into the men’s dormitory. It can accommodate up to eight men and two staff. Here are some key features of the men’s program:
-
Nine to twelve month residency
-
Daily mentoring and encouragement by godly men
-
Active involvement in Anchor Baptist Church
-
Paid work program that allows them to earn wages
-
Training to pass GED test if needed
-
Intensive discipleship studies through Reformers Unanimous
If you can send a one time donation to help cover start up expenses for this ministry, it would be greatly appreciated. We are thankful for our many friends and supporters. Without you our work would not be possible.
May the Lord Bless You.
