Anchor Academy Newsletter
February 2010
Dear Friends,
Greetings from the Anchor Academy. We have taken in four new students this year. Please pray for Jesse from CA, Chris from CA, Vince from AK, and Andy from CO that they will allow the Lord to work mightily in their lives. We also praise God for the two young men who have been saved since our last newsletter went out.
In January we were blessed to have a visit from Kyle Brooks, a former Anchor student from 06-07. Kyle has attended West Coast Baptist College and is also an Army Reservist. He is a godly young man with a bright future. We are proud of all our alumni, who are serving our country in the armed services – too many to count. The down economy has negatively affected many ministries like ours. We have worked hard to trim our budget to the bare minimum and be very disciplined in our spending. We continued to be amazed at God’s faithful provision as income from tuition only covers about 45% of our operating costs. We greatly appreciate all you who support the ministry on a regular basis.
We recently added a recreation room onto the back of the dormitory complete with a weight bench, weight machine, and fuse ball table. It is now the most popular gathering spot during free time. The glory of young men is their strength. Proverbs 20:29. We are also happy to report that the carpet square campaign has been successful with 50% of the needed money coming in to help us carpet the learning center. If you would still like to donate $10 to buy 1 carpet square it is not too late.
The following special classes are being offered this year for high school credit: Auto Maintenance, Personal Finance, Creative Writing, and a class called Lives of Famous Christians. We have found that the young men love to learn if the subject matter is presented in a fun and interesting way. One goal of our ministry is to equip these guys with practical skills and knowledge to help get them ready for life.
Attendance at Anchor Baptist Church has continued to be steady. We have a faithful group from the community who comes, as well as all the people associated with the Academy. About four or five of us go out door to door soul-winning on Saturdays to make new contacts. Please pray that God will multiply our soul-winning efforts in the small communities around our church. Thanks.
In Christ,
