Anchor Academy Newsletter

April-May 2010

Dear Friends,

Greetings from the Anchor Academy.  We have taken in four new students since I last wrote.  Please pray for Isaac from CA, Jonathan from TX, Jacob from CA, and Jesus from TX that they will yield their hearts to the redeeming work of Christ.  In our post-modern culture, many young people have developed a spirit of cynicism toward life.  We are glad to offer hope and a solid foundation for those who come to the academy.

We have had nine people saved and five baptized in the last two months.  Growth is a process, and we have to continually help the young men push back against the spirit of apathy, ignorance, and distraction.  I am so glad Jesus has promised to never leave us nor forsake us.  (Hebrews 13:5)

I am thankful for out talented team of staff, who are very good at building construction.  We have made progress on the dorm staff house, put up new siding on the second story of the recreation room, and installed a culvert and drain in the church parking lot.

The weather has certainly changed here in Missouri, and one can feel the humidity immediately upon going outside.  Brother Dennis and staff recently took the young men to our favorite spot on the Castor River.  I suspect they will be going again this summer as well as on many other fun outings.

Although we have no 2010 seniors, the school year has been very successful.  Great progress was made in getting the young men caught up to their appropriate grade level (most of them are behind in school when they come here).  Our juniors are excited about graduating next year.

Some churches have had to drop our support because of the economy.  I know it is always painful for a pastor to cut back on the missions budget.  The Apostle Paul said, “We are troubled on every side, yet not distressed; we are perplexed, but not in despair.”  Our income from tuition and donations continues to be low (only covering about 50% of expenses), but God has provided some outside work from a local farmer to help sustain us.

Thank you for your prayers and support; we look forward to hearing from you soon.  You are always welcome to call us or send us an email at anchoracademy@cablerocket.com.

In Christ,

Trevor Spencer, Pastor
